new place

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Hmmm, it’s like moving into a place where everything is all neat and clean, but also a little cold and alien. I guess that this also means that Strangegods is a “real ” comic strip now.

I imagine that it will probably take me a little while to fill this place out and make it my own. But I’m certainty excited about the possibilities currently presented to me.

So the old url  should now be redirecting to this new site, and should anyone be interested (God only knows why), the old site can be found here < .

My review: everything I hoped it would be. Chris Nolan really gets it.

Cleansing the Palette

You would think that I would at least wait until this site was a bit older than a couple of weeks before completely overhauling the look of it. But alas no, that was not the case here. I did like the old color scheme, but it was certainly lacking a certain je ne sais quoi. With the exception of random minor tweaks, this should remain the general look of the site for the foreseeable future.

On a completely unrelated note, I downloaded the entire first season of 30 Rock onto my iPod. Next time I find myself out and about waiting somewhere, I can be entertained by 640×480 pixels of Tina Fey goodness. Hot damn. Now someone give me an excuse to wait.

Girls With Slingshots

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Surprisingly enough, I don’t follow very many webcomics. One of the few I do enjoy though, is Girls with Slingshots by Danielle Corsetto. I am insanely jealous of her natural art style and figure work. There is a simplistic life to her drawings of which I can’t help but be be envious.

Attempting to draw another cartoonists characters in your style is no easy task, as it is the very style of the original artist that defines them. I’m still not entirely sure that I pulled it of successfully, but it sure was a blast to draw.

I cannot even tell you how much I love the above image by Nina Matsumoto of SpaceCoyote
Someone please put that on a shirt, so I can buy one.

(In case you don’t get it, you can do a little research into the inspiration behind Calvin

and Hobbes).

No. 6

Friday, August 8th, 2008

So I finally broke down and watched the new re-imagined Battlestar Galactica mini-series yesterday. I have been hearing people say nothing but good things about this show for a couple of years now, but had continued to refrain from checking it out due to my lingering memories of the original.

While this new version is definitely not the best thing on tv, I was surprisingly impressed with the new direction they have taken it. Well, at least the direction they have taken with the mini-series. I’m reserving judgment for the ongoing series until I have actually had a chance to sit down and  consume it.

I do love the notion of religious zealotry in an artificial life form. This alone makes the character of Number Six imediately the most interesting and fascinating of the bunch.

I did this character design this morning for an upcoming story line. I’ve been slowing transitioning the art style over the past few months away from the more comic strip style and into a more amalgamate comic book/comic strip look. It’s going to allow me to do a lot more of the stuff that I have in mind for the future of this comic. It also make sit a lot more fun to draw, and that’s really the only that matters to me.
