FeedBurner

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I switched over the rss feed for the comic to FeedBurner today. Anyone already subscribing shouldn’t notice a change at all. (Hopefully.)

On the off chance that you do have a problem, please drop me a line so I can get it squared away as soon as possible. The direct link to the new feed can be found here

Super hero battle

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I was wandering around the web today and I stumbled onto a comic art message board that puts up weekly “challenges” for it’s artist. Weekly projects, for the purpose of friendly competition and artistic practice. The one currently in progress was simple enough: Draw Wolverine fighting Spider-Man. Christ, I haven’t drawn superheroes in years, but it looked like fun so I gave it a shot.

It turned out to be an absolute joy to draw this thing. Reminded me of how much comic books inspired me as a young artist. The contest rules were for only pencil or pen and ink drawings, although I think I will color this tonight or tomorrow. We’ll see.

Well, that didn’t take long

The Confounding Lolbat

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Scott Kurtz over at PvP , recently introduced a superhero steeped in internet memes: the Lolbat. Keeping in my rather uncharacteristic theme this week of being highly productive, I knocked out this Lolbat piece today.

Saturday night sky

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Unfortunately, due to my being out of town all last week and weekend, I wasn’t able to have a new comic for this morning.  I will, however, attempt to compensate you with this piece, highlighting my strongest visual memory of the weekend.

Where have the comics been?

.!.

So a funny thing happened this week that prevented me from doing a Tuesday comic: Ike

I figured that since I live pretty far, as in hundreds of miles, from Texas, I would be fairly unaffected by the storm.

I was wrong Imprint download .

Sunday afternoon, Columbus was hit with 75mph storm winds that pretty much knocked us on our ass.  About half the city was without power for for two days, and I still have friends without power. Granted this was a walk in the park compared with what people are still going through in Texas, it was still enough to prevent me from doing a comic.

So sorry about that.

A couple pics from the show

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Finally got around to posting some pics from the Death Cab for Cutie and Tegan & Sara show.

I had seen Tegan & Sara before, but this was my first time seeing Death Cab, and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised.  They absolutely rocked. This ended up being one of the best shows that I’ve seen in a while, and an incredibly fun night. It began with me running all around the Arena District with some girl I’d just met, looking for an ATM, and then proceeding to have a drunken blast throughout the night with Michelle, Rebecca, and Drew.

As an aside, the opening act was City and Color, who I had never heard of before, but will now openly recommend.

All in all, a great night. Now when’s the next one?

Voted!

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Got up this morning and walked down the street to Riverside Elementary School and fulfilled my civic duty. I waited about an hour, and was surprised at how smoothly everything was going. People were in a good mood and joking around. I spent most of my time in line talking to the various people waiting around me. There was no sign of the anger and nastiness that seemed to prevail in parts of this campaign. It didn’t matter who you were voting for, we were there together, as Americans, taking part in something special, and we all knew it.

The PTA even had a bake sale set up in the gymnasium, and the whole thing had a very small town feel to it, never mind the fact that I live in a major U.S. city within a battleground state. (The next closest polling station, located just down the same street, was littered with news vans and reporters.)

My favorite thing that I saw this morning was the 10 year old Muslim girl, complete in hijab,  handing out “I Voted” stickers to people as they left. So to anyone who still seems to think that you can’t be both a Muslim and an American and patriot, you can shove that up your ass.

All in all, I left feeling very good about democracy, and surprisingly patriotic for such a cynical ass as myself.

Happy Holidays everyone
